Attention to those who travel to Hungary to continue their studies

1. The Consular Section would like to draw the attention of applicants who intend to travel to Hungary to continue their studies and have a government scholarship that a separate email address was created studyvisa.bis@mfa.gov.hu to make an appointment easier.

Students intending to travel to Hungary for study purposes are required to send a copy of their passport and university admission certificate to the above email address. Based on these documents, our consulate registers the applicant to submit documents. Once confirmed, applicants must arrive to the consulate at the designated time. If the applicant does not appear at the specified time (for example: could not arrive on time, documents are not ready, did not record the time correctly, etc.), the Consular Section will only be able to provide him with a much later date for filing.

The following documents will be required upon application if the applicant is receiving a Stipendium Hungaricum or another Hungarian government scholarship:

• completed and signed application form,

• 2 photos,

• certificate of admission or confirmation of student status,

• scholarship certificate,

• certificate from the hostel, or hotel reservation, or rental agreement,

• booked plane tickets,

• travel insurance.

It should be noted that the paperwork for the payment of the scholarship may take a long time, so it is recommended to have funds with you during this process.

2. Tuition-paying students must submit their applications by appointment to VFS. Applicants are reminded that if a visa application is made at a VFS office, a service fee of €30 will be required except the visa fee. Additional services are provided at the VFS office for a fee. You can find out more about the services on the website visa.vfsglobal.com.

Documents required for submission if the applicant pays for his or her own tuition:

• completed and signed application form,

• 2 photos,

• certificate of admission or confirmation of student status,

• confirmation of payment of the relevant tuition fees,

• confirmation of the availability of a hostel, hotel reservation or apartment rental agreement,

• confirmation of financial support: confirmation of a bank account in your name, bank confirmation of parents with a letter of guarantee and confirmation of family ties,

• booked air tickets,

• travel insurance.

The procedure begins only when all the necessary documents are available at the consular office. Complete applications are sent to the relevant regional office of the General Directorate for Migration of Hungary, where a decision is made within 10-15 days. The consulate cannot provide information on the state of affairs. Following the decision the Consular Section will notify the applicant that the visa has been issued.

The Consular Section does not have the ability to speed up the procedure, so we strongly recommend starting the procedure on time. We also recommend purchasing an air ticket for your trip only after receiving a visa; only a reservation is enough to apply. If you have any questions, the Consular Section is available at the above email address and telephone number during applicant reception hours.
