If you are a family member of a citizen of an EU/European Economic Area country (except Hungary) or Switzerland, you may be entitled to a simplified procedure for issuing a Schengen visa free of charge, but you are subject to a service fee (33 EUR) if you submit documents at the VFS Global. Additional services are also provided at the VFS office for a fee. You can find out more about the services on the website visa.vfsglobal.com. You can apply for a visa at the Consulate of Hungary as well. If you are a family member of an EU/EEA or Switzerland, please write a letter to visa.bis@mfa.gov.hu, and the appointment will be organized by the Consulate of Hungary.
 

Family members:

• Spouse/Registered Partner

• Lineal descendants (children) who are under 21 years of age or who are dependents, and lineal descendants (children) who are under 21 years of age or who are dependents of a spouse or partner.

• Direct dependent relatives in the ascending line (eg parents), as well as direct dependent relatives of the spouse or partner in the ascending line.
 

Documents required to obtain a visa for EU/EEA or Swiss family members:

• application form

• one passport photo

• passport and its photocopy

• a document confirming that you are a family member of an EU citizen (for example, a valid passport of an EU citizen; a birth or marriage certificate; a document confirming that you are a dependent of an EU citizen)

• a document confirming that you are accompanying an EU citizen or you are traveling to visit an EU citizen and she/he resides in the country of destination

+ In case of departure of a minor: original + photocopy of the birth certificate, original + photocopy of a notarized power of attorney from the parents for departure, as well as photocopies of the parents’ documents: passport or identity card.
